Willy Calderon Puts L.A. on the Tropical Music Map with his New Album Release L.A. Impromptu10/4/2021 “After completing [L.A. Impromptu] I said, this is one of the best recordings this year. Many of you will agree with me when you listen to it.” Nelson Rodriguez (RMM, Latin Beat Magazine)
LOS ANGELES, CA, October 4, 2021 - Willy Calderon is the mastermind behind The L.A. Impromptu Orchestra, a Los Angeles-based orchestra led by the young percussionist, producer, and mix engineer. The L.A. Impromptu Orchestra brings together over 30 of the world's most reputable artists from various Latin music genres including salsa, jazz, son and popular music collaborating for the first time on a single album. The result, L.A. Impromptu, an album that seamlessly fuses Latin rhythms to create a unique and captivating sound like no other. “L.A. Impromptu was born from my heart, my home, my passion. I was inspired to create a band that would showcase all the talented artists on the west coast,” said Calderon. “I wanted this album to represent the best of Los Angeles and to remain a legacy of this period of time in music, of L.A, and of quality production and passion.” Actor Bill Pullman narrates the intro to L.A. Impromptu which features an all-star line-up of award-winning artists including Grammy Award-winning Luis Conte, Alex Acuña, Tony Succar, Luisito Quintero and Grammy Award-nominated artist Alberto Salas, as well as, Roberto Quintero, Eliel Lazo, Adonis Panter Calderon, Oscar Ivan Lozano, John Egizi, Diego Camacho, Green Grizz, Hugo Motta, Ostual Serna, Kiwzo Fumero, Lito Hernandez, Jonathan Pintoff, Joe Motter, Luis Manuel Vadel, Anthony Ambriz, Brigido “Macondo” Chaverra, Luis Eric Gonzalez, Edgar Cruz, David Gomez Herrera, Pedro Ramirez, Jaime Andres “Gato” Salazar, Edwin Blas, Carlos Centeno, Andres De Cali, Mahesh Balasooriya, and Steve Giraldo “Mofongo”. Calderon is hopeful to nab a nom for L.A. Impromptu in the Best Tropical Latin Album category when nominations are announced for the 64th GRAMMY Awards on November 23, 2021. “While recording Thriller, Quincy Jones told his musicians, ‘Ok guys, we’re here to save the recorded music industry.’ I believe we’re doing that for Latin music in Los Angeles. A Grammy nomination or win would cement that idea and allow us to spread our music to the world in a time most necessary to do it,” said Calderon. L.A. Impromptu is available on Spotify and Amazon Music. For more information, please visit: www.willycalderon.com Follow Willy Calderon and The L.A. My 1st Cymbal Was A B8 and Ive Been In Love Ever Since. Here's To A Brand New Journey With Sabian Cymbals." - Willy Calderon “Every time I get the chance to hang out with drummers and percussionists, no matter whether they are famous (yet) or not, there’s a positive energy that fills the room and our conversation. I’ve heard stories about and experienced many times, the familiarity and shared passion playing brings to us. Players recognize that no other musicians in the band, possible exception of trumpet players so be kind to them, have that kind of comradery amongst their peers. Knowing that passion and understanding the joy of playing is one of the many parts of what makes SABIAN different. That joy is one of commonalities and part of what makes us our own tribe, no matter what type of music we each play. A passion for our own style and sound and the fact that our individual energy is projected into and from our instruments. We take that seriously, which is why we will always make cymbals by hand. The energy that our craftspeople put into each cymbal is part of what makes each of our cymbals unique. That quality helps to define your sound, your creative expression, your voice. We respect the living metal which we create, the craft that brings out its power and how that shares in creating your signature sound. We don’t cut corners. We don’t put our ego ahead of yours. Your instrument is a part of you and it needs to contribute to your sound as much as your fingers and wrists. That’s our commitment. We will always do our part to create the best instruments to help you have Your voice. To play your way.” – Andy Zildjian Sabian Cymbals https://sabian.com/artist/willy-calderon/
